Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NCI)

The Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) effectively teaches people to safely manage aggressive behavior utilizing nonviolent verbal and physical strategies. The mission of the program is to provide the best “Care, Welfare, Safety, and Security” for the students and staff within our organization. The strategies learned are the only SELPA approved techniques allowed to safely manage students in crisis.

Video in the Classroom

Event Date: Mar 16, 2010

Hands-on workshop designed to help educators discover the power and ease of using video with students. Focus of the course will be on teaching and learning with the use of video. We will explore teacher and student video project examples, hardware and software needs, project planning, publication and distribution. Participants will explore the use of video by working through hands-on projects in the workshop. Course will be conducted on Windows-based computers using Windows Movie Maker. Video cameras will be provided for use during the workshop.

Teaching Social Skills to Students with Autism

This training will cover the following topics related to Autism:

· Why do we need to teach social skills?

· Why are social skills so difficult for individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorders?

· Specific concepts impacting the development of social skills.

· Differentiating between social skills during childhood and adolescence.

· Resources for further information.

Spring Credential Webcast

The purpose of the Spring Credential's Workshop is to share information about changes in 2009 statutes, regulations, policies and procedures that affect credential requirements and application submissions and processing.

Introduction to Interwrite Tablets in the Classroom

Hands-on course is an introduction to the use of Interwrite Pads to create dynamic, interactive classroom lessons. Teachers can project their lessons on the whiteboard to create an interactive environment while maintaining the ability to move around the classroom. More importantly, we'll explore how these tools are even more powerful and engaging in the hands of your students.

Special Education Self Review Training

Event Date: Mar 19, 2010

Grady Pennington CDE Focused Monitoring and Technical Assistance Consultant will present important information on the upcoming Special Education Self Review (SESR). He will cover the contents of the CD each district will receive that will contain all instructions, forms, item tables and manuals. He will also provide instruction on the SESR software that will be used throughout the review process.

Grady will remain in the building until 3:30 p.m. to provide technical assistance and answer individual questions.

Our guest speaker, Dianna Whaley, Degree Program Representative at Fresno Pacific University, will provide a hands-on, interactive, energizing workshop that will guide participants through practical and useful activities that provide an understanding of their own personality preferences and those of others who are different from themselves. Good Stress...Building Better Muscles and Bones

"This workshop will highlight the NASA CONNECT episode called: "Good Stress: Building Better Muscles and Bones." Participants will introduce their students to the importance of building and maintaining better muscles and bones. Students will see how NASA scientists and researchers collect and analyze physiological data to understand how muscle and bones are constantly changing, especially in a microgravity environment. Teachers will participate in an exciting inquiry-based classroom activity to demonstrate to their students how they can make connections between NASA research, biology, mathematics, science, and technology. As an extension to this activity teachers will learn plot their research based data from this activity into graphs and charts. "

SB472 ELPD - Secondary [Central] Cohort V

English Learner Professional Development Institute Content: The training is intended to support teachers who have attended the initial SB 472 Professional Development in English/Language Arts and Mathematics. The CDE reimbursement for SB 472 is contingent upon the teacher first completing SB 472/AB 466 in ELA and math.
